The sun shined down on the Fort Weyr Bowl, as Kaeya exited the lower caverns with a scowl on her face. Even the Weyrfolk who weren’t riders felt the need to ridicule her. It wasn’t her fault that her dragon was different, not that she cared. The woman loved Zarinth for who she was, and she didn’t care what anyone thought of her. Three turns of dealing with the hatred was starting to get to her though. “It’s only for a sevenday longer.” She told herself with a sigh, trying to calm down least her thoughts wake the sleeping Zarinth. A mental brush of the Amethyst dragon’s mind told her that the Queen was still deep in slumber, enjoying the afternoon sun on her ledge. The Weyrwoman hadn’t wanted to give her a luxurious Queen’s Weyr but Zarinth wouldn’t fit anywhere else so she had no choice, Kaeya chuckled remembering that day. It was a small battle won, but it still felt good.
Just a sevenday more and they would be at a new Weyr away from all of this. She hated how her fellow Riders were treated like they were criminals who had the plague. If Zarinth was awake she would be roaring with fury from the anger radiating from her Rider. Luckily the young woman was managing not to disturb the Amethyst. When the Weyr was in an uproar it often turned nasty for the riders, due to it fact it was usually Zarinth defending her clutch mates and the Fort Queen challenging her. The Amethyst Queen was too proud to willing submit to the Gold, and Kaeya was always to blame, not that she minded. What irked her was when the other Riders got in trouble, so she was glad that Zarinth seemed too asleep to notice her mood.
Walking over to the lake she sat down on the shoreline, watching dragons play in the water, hunt herdbeasts, and sun on the ledges. She couldn’t help but notice that a couple of dragons seemed excited about something, perhaps one of the female Onyx dragons was getting ready to rise, they seemed to rise earlier than other females did. It made her think of Zarinth. She was unique no one knew when to estimate her rising, or what to expect. Kaeya was sure that the dragon was fully grown, being a little over three turns old she didn’t seem to have grown any lately, but was loosing her baby fat, and growing sleeker everyday it seemed. As she leaned back on her arms, tilting her face towards the sun to catch the warm she closed her eyes thinking in anticipation of what it would be like to finally leave this place.
In the peace of the moment Kaeya wasn’t ready for what happened next. Extreme fury and hunger overcame her and a loud challenging roar that shook the entire Bowl resonated from Zarinth’s ledge. She had hoped the Amethyst would wait until they moved but it seemed that wasn’t going to happen now. Everything happened so fast, Zarinth was off her ledge gliding towards the herdbeasts, and as Kaeya began to fight for control she didn’t even have time to wonder how mad the Fort Weyrwoman would be that Zarinth rose here. As the Queen reached the beasts she bellowed as she reached down for a herdbeast.

A'kion was in his weyr as the black dragon Hekiearth started to wake and caused his rider to turn to him. He looked to see his dragon bugle and then went down to the weyrbeast pens below. The black rider got dressed quickly in black pants and a white shirt then ran down the stairs to his dragon. It was a odd occasion was on of Fort's dragons rising then saw what was the big draw. It was the queen amethyst Zarinth that was blooding her kill and soon his black dragon was doing the same. His own emotions we're starting to be affected as he started to feel himself blooding the kill and tried to focus yet it was too much. The black rider was getting lost in the emotions of mating lust and continued to watch his beast bloody the beast.
He had been wondering when the queen would rise and hoped that it would happen at the new weyr. A'kion looked around to see if Kaeya was around and didn't see her yet the rider couldn't be far. The black rider looked around to see that the other dragons we're becoming more agitated and soon would be joining. His dragon was looking for another weyrbeast that was running away in havoc yet bloodied it completely. A'kion knew that the beasts we're for this purpose of feeding the dragons and wondered how much this would be backfire to them.
The sky was crystal blue a perfect day for a mating flight and then readied himself for what was to come. His dragon was busy blooding his kill and keeping a eye on the queen clutch mate or not. A'kion hadn't had any contact with the queen rider outside of day to day business because of their training. While his own parents had almost disowned him when they found his dragon was a unusual color. A'kion had a fire lizard queen that wasn't even a normal color it had turned out to be Amethyst and he loved his little lizard queen Rezi.

>Zarinth is rising.<
Those were the only words H'den got out of his dragon before the Crimson took off from their weyr, bugling out as he flew to where the herdbeasts were kept, ready to make his kill and bleed in preparation for the mating flight that was soon to occur. Mating Flights were not a common occurrence at Fort, and so there was always a sense of excitement about them. H'den wasn't so sure how this one would be received, considering it was one of the exiles rising.
Already the feelings of mating lust were starting to affect H'den's mind as he rose from his bed, quickly pulling on his clothes, already able to feel his dragon draw the blood from one of the frantic herdbeast he'd taken down while the others scattered around, feeling the dragons that had descended on them. Vesuth kept an eye on the queen, occasionally sizing up the competition. He was hardly concerned about them, though-there was no doubt in the Crimson's mind that he would out-fly them all. It was merely a matter of time.

As Zarinth reached down to eat from the meaty flesh of the herdbeast, Kaeya fought for mental control accreting her will on the Queen to blood her kills. The large Amethyst roared her defiance at the order, reluctantly obeying. It took all of her focus to keep the Queen blooding her kills as the dragon took down a second herdbest, leaving no time for Kaeya to try and recognize any of the riders who had shown up. Although in the back of her mind she personally hoped none of the Fort Weyr bronzes caught her. This thought was quickly pushed aside as Zarinth blooded a third kill and then turned to look at the awaiting males.
Mating lust and anger boiled through her as she stared at her competition, who were they to think they could catch her? She was their Queen and could out fly them, especially the Fort Weyr bronzes who had dared to show up. Zarinth would make them work for what they wanted and challenged them with a bugle that reverberated around the Weyr. Unfurling her wings she was off the ground and climbing towards the sky, heading away from these dragons who dared to try and out fly her.

Hekiearth was off after the queen dragon who had taken off and bugled to meet the challenge. He was going to catch the queen and knew that it would take one of her own to get her. The bronze dragons of Fort Weyr had to right to her this was their queen and he was off. His large wings we're using the wing to move him up wards and only thought of the queen. While on the ground A'kion was watching the scene caught up in the emotions of the rise. He has never participated in a mating flight before and wanted to win it.
He caught a breath then was almost like he was flying through the clouds and could taste the warm blood in his mouth. A'kion was breathing hard as more clouds burst forward around him and the chase was all there was. His senses told him to go forward and to catch the queen that she would be his. The black black dragon and A'kion we're one creature not having two minds. His dragons desires we're now his and nothing else seemed important to him at the moment.

Vesuth had just finished off a second herdbeast when the queen took to the sky, bugling her challenge out. He eagerly followed, powerful strokes of his wings carrying him higher, moving quickly, his whole mind focused on the pursuit of Zarinth.
H'den's mind was, as well, completely consumed by the mating flight, melded totally with Vesuth's. He could see and feel only what the crimson felt at the moment-the air moving beneath his wings, the exhilarating feeling of the chase. He had already made up his mind; he was going to be the one to catch the amethyst. He was dead set on the goal, and he would not be deviating from it, not until he had reached it. Failure wasn't even a possibility, in his mind.

Kaeya’s mind was completely Zarinth. The freedom of flight flowed through her along with the pursuit of the chase. The Amethyst noticed the dragons following her as she glanced under her wing once as she climbed higher into the sky only leveling out once she reached what she deemed was a suitable altitude. Sure the higher up they went, they harder it was to fly, but it was one of the tricks she had to weed out those who were unworthy. The Queen would play with them until she tired or one of them happened to out smart her. Casually riding on the warm updrafts she dared to look back after a short amount of time. Amusement briefly touched her mind as she saw a bronze give up.
Time to see who could keep up she decided. Without warning the Queen angled herself downward as she tucked her wings in closer and dived down towards the ground, keeping an eye on who dared to follow in this downward chase. Just before she got to close to the ground she opened her wings and began rising back up with powerful downward strokes. She was pleased to see that another bronze had given up after that little stunt, and was aware of a dull ache in her wing joints. Pushing the thought aside Zarinth continued forward trying to quickly rise into and above a cloud to loose her suitors, while checking to see who was left.

Hekiearth saw some more bronzes giving up then he went higher up in the air and wanted to win. He could feel his wings start to ache yet kept going as clouds continued to go past him. The young black dragon had only one thought to win the amethyst. While on the ground A'kion felt himself high in the clouds and kept looking up nothing else was around him. His own thoughts connected with his dragons nothing else seemed to matter at the moment.
He felt himself almost stop breathing as his dragon went higher up into the air and had to steady himself. A'kion had not been involved with many other flights and this was all new to him. The young man had wonder what the clutch would look like at the end it depended on the sire. It was no secret many feared what would happened if two mutant dragons we're to mate. In his mind his dragon was climbing higher and wanted the queen.

Vesuth found himself lagging, just a tad, but not so much as the bronzes that were now quitting the chase, giving up. It wasn't as though they stood a chance against him, after all, he was surely going to catch the amethyst himself. No other was going to match him, not today. As the queen dove, so did he, catching himself just in the nick of time and swooping upward in a narrow arc.
On the ground, H'den's mind was still connected fully by Vesuth, consumed by the dragon's emotions and senses. He could feel the ache in his wings, though he ignored it, stubborn as ever. Nothing on all of Pern would stop him now, not until he had the queen he so desired. He pushed himself harder, flew faster, moving neck in nekc with the other males.

Zarinth continued to fly through the clouds, the sun was warm on her back and the freedom of flight was still very enjoyable in her mind despite the ache that was starting to build in her wings. Curious as to who was still left to out fly she glanced under her wing and saw Black Hekiearth and Crimson Vesuth, were still in the flight ahead of the others, and it seemed there was still one stubborn Fort Bronze left. It was a feat to have lasted this long against the others but that still didn’t make any Fort dragon worthy of her. As the ache slowly started to grow from dull to a slight throbbing she decided that she would loose this last bronze then she would decide who was worthy.
Knowing that they would be expecting another dive she instead climbed higher into the sky and began to lean backwards as she flew over them in a stunning back flip in midair and leveled out so that she was now flying behind them. She then dived downward spiraling towards the ground in a corkscrew spin. Snapping her wings open at the last moment she began to rise back in the air, watching as the Bronze was unable to compete with her aerial back flip. Her wings now burned and she knew she wouldn’t be able to keep it up much longer. As she watched the bronze she hadn’t been paying attention to what was above her and suddenly she felt something near her and saw a dark looming shape, and a flash of Crimson hide. She was under Vesuth, she tried to twist over so that she could escape, but the Crimson had plenty of time to claim his prize if he was quick enough.
Down on the ground Kaeya’s mind was totally Zarinth’s as she enjoyed the chase, a look of triumph on her face as she craftily outmaneuvered the last Fort Bronze dragon. She felt her wings burning with the strain of flying and let out a loud gasp as the Queen realized that she was under the Crimson Vesuth.

Hekiearth looked up to see the amethyst dragon was under his brother a crimson dragon and it made him grow angry as he tried to fly near. He knew that it was too late no doubt the crimson dragon would just grip her now and it would be over. The black dragon still bellowed more and wanted to win yet the crimson dragon was close to her. It was just the two of them now due to bronze dragons had left and continued to follow close hoping to win. While the black dragon tried to find a space where to win at and just kept trailing behind yet not to far.
On the ground A'kion felt the frustration from his dragon and just sighed this was not going well. The rider would have sworn that his black dragon would have stood a chance and sighed waiting for the inevitable. It was no doubt that the crimson dragon would win and leave the black dragon standing. His black dragon was trailing upwards only about a hundred feet away from them and wanted to win. One wrong move by that crimson dragon and he would win yet had to wait to see what the crimson dragon would do.

Vesuth followed the queen closely through her aerial feats, tracking and sometimes mirroring each move she made. When she finally seemed to stop her maneuvering, and simply leveling off-and now flying just beneath him. Directly beneath, just ready to be caught by him.
The Crimson made no hesitation. He crooned to the amethyst, his eyes swirling to a deep purlple color as he entwined his tail and neck with hers. He felt a swell of pride-he had won the great honor of mating with Zarinth. It was just as he had expected to happen.
H'den shared the pride that Vesuth felt-as well as the lust. He made his way to Kaeya, wrapping his arms around the woman's waist and pulling her towards him, his lips pressing lightly against her neck.

Zarinth was about to attempt to dive to get away from the Crimson dragon when she heard him croon and she found her neck and tail entwined with his. She crooned back her eyes also swirling a deep purple.
Kaeya felt someone’s arms wrap around her waist and the some brush of lips on her neck. Her mind was still Zarinth’s and she caught a glimpse of H’den’s face. She wrapped her arms around his neck to steady herself as her own lips brushed his.
The next morning Kaeya woke with a jolt her mind no longer caught up in Zarinth’s. She blinked several times trying to clear the sleepiness from her eyes. ”Your in your Weyr.”[/color] The Queen told her, sounding very smug. The last thing the Weyrwoman remembered seeing as H’den and a couple glimpses of walls. Now it was all starting to come back to here. Vesuth had caught Zarinth and now H’den would be Weyrleader of Malvok Weyr. From what she knew of the man he would make a good Weyrleader in her mind. Speaking of which she glanced around the room seeing if he was here and then she remembered to look next to her to see if he was sleeping.

H'den woke up slowly, unable to quite figure out where he was at the moment.
>You're with Kaeya,< Vesuth informed him, >In her weyr.<
Kaeya? H'den thought, before the earlier events began to fill his mind-the flight and what had followed it, more in mixed of bits and pieces than full, clear memories, but he was able to make everything out well enough. The reality of it set in after a moment. He was the new Weyrleader of Malvok, before they had even arrived there.
He looked around, finding that he was still laying besides Kaeya, who was looking at him. "G'morning," He mumbled out, yawning a bit as he sat up.
