Benecio Weyr
AIVAS does not exist, and the dragons still fight thread. This is how it looks to always be, and why not! Dragons need this purpose, as it is proven many times over in history. Yet, it seems it is a waning threat, as the star passes once again. Thread falls less often all the time now, and clutches are becoming smaller. A time of easy breathing is on its way.
Or is it?
History writes devastation for us, and we must figure out how to deal with it. Today, I attended the touching of eggs as a candidate, and I saw the ex-weyrwoman.
There are seven eggs, and each person at the weyr seems to be hoping none are duds. It would be a fitting honor for Virith if she managed to at least produce 7 eggs that produce dragons.
I see it as my duty to tell you that I pleaded with each egg to live, and though I think others did to, I will not state that as fact...
I also state here that all seven eggs hatched...

In these smaller clutches though, some odd dragons have appeared. Female bronzes are just the start... For the great golden queen lies dead from a thread fall tragedy. Something happened last thread fall, the last queen made her flight as it fell.
Then there are the whispers of golden Junoth rising, heralding a change in leadership if Myth does not catch her again. Of course, I can not hope my dear heart Wielananth will chase, he is a brown and I am no leader. My marks are on our wingleader to be honest...

It wasn't that the queen was ignorant to the thread fall, the thread was not meant to fall at that time. Something made the threads fall irregularly, not that that hadn't happened in the history of Pern before, but it wasn't something that was expected. Not only did it fall out of pattern, it fell in the wrong area of Pern than expected. It should have fallen closer to the south, not so far to the west.
"I wasn't ready to be Weyrling Master, I hadn't nearly enough training for it. I wish Lynx hadn't stepped down from it. I mean, I didn't really know her, but I needed her there. Isn't that the point of weyrlife? To have your place and and rely on those around you to have theirs? To work off one another to function?"

The bronzes should have been fighting thread, but that instinct to fly the queen was stronger, and that urge took over. Thus Benecio dealt with a tragedy it was not accustomed to.
So much has happened, where do I begin? The Weyrling rebellion, the joy of children born in the weyr, or the excitement of the queens rising? All of this in only a few turns here at Benecio! The obsidian rider who leads the rebellion called to the dragons of Benecio weyr, it seems they want more followers. Not long after this, our copper junior queen rose, and there are whispers of a plot to surround her clutch...

Her clutch of seven hatched... giving rise to a killer obsidian, who would go forward in leading their own rebellion against Benecio, sworn to destroy them who they believed to terrible. Nasari and her obsidian, slowly pulling away the lifeblood of the weyr with every hatching by attempting to steal weyrlings away, even killing a Junior weyrwoman on the sands, and they are just one threat to the weyr.
It still hurts sometimes to think about her, when I see Rame I am reminded of her. That's why I needed to get away from Benecio, someone there murdered her, and I will one day avenge her. Don't you worry Grandma Lyra, if no one else will for your life given to Benecio, then I will."

Due to Benecio's relaxed standard on tradition, they have fallen out of favor of many other weyrs. Igen, home to the Weyrwoman, is the only that still openly communicates with them. Even the holds are rumored to be disagreeable about sending supplies to the breeding ground of mutations and strange riders. Even the hold sworn to the Weyr is starting to cause them trouble....
"Those sharding fools, they don't stand a chance out there without a weyr to shelter them during the next threadfall. Nasari had such promise, and with that obsidian of hers, well I can't say much on the dragon, but the girl! She could have led the weyr once that dragon got old enough to chase. And I'd have followed her, cursed rebellion!"

And you have it! This is Benecio weyr, located on the Western coast. Can it cope with the deaths they have suffered? Can they regain the favor of Pern?
"I can't believe there was only one graduate for Viriths' last clutch ever. Why would the rest want to transfer to other weyrs? Or go weryless for that matter. Well a good deal of Junoths first are still here, ready for our own graduation which is being prepared for now."
